"Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To" (murdersofa)

I mean... come on. I realize this isn't even close to representative of the import scene or even car guys as a general, but it's this sort of fast-and-furious crowd that gets things like Cars and Coffee banned and well-meaning people with fast-looking cars constantly picked on by cops.

Blame Street Outlaws. I have nothing to add to this but fuck em, I blame Street Outlaws.

It's dumb fucking kids who think they're in F&F who give modified Hondas a bad name.

The first time I went to an event, I was expecting a rice brigade. Turns out that the more riced out with "go fast" bits a car is, the less likely they are to actually take it to a track. It's not really a surprise though. The biggest upgrade you can make to a car is to the lump of flesh in the driver's seat.

This has been happening way longer than Street Outlaws. I'm trying (and failing) to find those images of 70s parts catalogs selling fake chrome side exhaust, hood scoops, decals, wings, etc. to make your car look like a muscle car, along with lowering springs (leaf springs instead of coilovers though) and shit like that.

Come on now, modified Hondas give modified Hondas a bad name. Yes I know one time they made a rwd car and this one guy on a forum built one that beat a V8 one time.

There are clean modified Hondas out there, but there is an overwhelming excess of boy racer mobiles and that excess is what does it.

I actually like some of the modified Hondas, they don't look too bad. But it boils down to what you do with it. I think it's ok to be passionate about the car, and be willing to modify it.

Reads the same as "Hey guys I forget the place where we're meeting up to get some drugs, can you tell me where it is again?"

What happened back in the day is that they'd see a relatively well crafted 50k$ build in some magazine and think I want that! Problem is that the build in the magazine started with a well sorted virgin car and was built by pros using well manufactured or bespoke parts. The kid would pick up a barely running car out of the classifieds and use whatever was the cheapest they could find to emulate the magazine car. Or worse, they'd shitily 'make' the parts out of inappropriate materials. My favorite was when HIDs were new and they'd pull out their bulbs, color them blue with markers, then drive around with their brights on all the time. Thank god that's dead.
Haven't been keeping track of the 'scene' since the 90s but I imagine it's the same substituting 'the internet' for 'magazines' and 'craigslist' for 'classifieds'.
It's like a street urchin dressing like an oil baron with clothes they made themselves from discarded dish rags. Ain't foolin' no one.
Problem is, they outnumber the decent builds 10-1.

The next biggest upgrades are things that help that lump of flesh do his job better (short shifter, good seat/harness, steering wheel) :P

Spot on, there's still clean builds. But they are far outnumbered.

If you want to see clean Hondas then Honda Day is the place to go. I mean there are some that are a bit tasteless of course but for the most part everything is done right and clean. Hoping to go this year.

This is so well crafted that this guy is either (to quote James May) a monumental knob, or this was just a well done joke.
